Day 67 - Sunday, Tylers Last Day

So this morning, we started off by moving out of our apartment in Orvieto Scalo, to our new 3 bedroom, proper, and clean, spacious new apartment. Tyler and Drew moved all the bags to the new house while Frankie and I went to work. Then Tyler joined us for lunch service and Drew assisted chef with moving the rest of the belongings out of the old place. It happened to be Tyler’s last day too. He was headed back to Maine via Boston early the next morning. I made Peanut Butter & Jelly cupcakes with PB Buttercream Frosting. Topped with some jelly drizzle and crushed hazelnuts. This of course was by request from the boys and Carlo’s wife. So we made 18 and dispersed them appropriately so that all could indulge.

With it being Sunday, it was a half day, so after service, where we had a few folks come in, Tyler and I headed back to the new pad. He went to Anna’s for a while and then I took a nap. The other boys came home, as we were set to meet chef at 7pm to have dinner in the countryside. All the boys, chef, me, and Anna headed to Faustos. He is the owner of this trattoria in the countryside town of Morena, they are known for their cingale (wild boar), he is the one usually hunting them for procurement for the restaurant. After a 25 minute drive, we happened across the little town and the restaurant. We were all famme!

Fausto came out and asked what we would like, and chef directed that he bring whatever he would like. I love when this happens! We started off with typical antipasto; crostini with toppings, meats, and vedura fritte. Then it was on to the second course, cingale ragu. Holy Moly, was this so much better than the picture can do justice. We were also drinking the house red wine, which I believe Fausto makes on his own, pretty tasty. The second course was a meat treat; cingale chop, pork salssicia, and angello chop. All this meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection and the best part, it was all served with a side of homemade chips. Then dolci, we ended up having the Carnivale fried pastry, but later, we all shared every dessert they had. The ice cream was the best!

We then were treated to a visit to the kitchen, which was rather large and had a freshly shot and butchered cingale in it. We were able to see the bullet wound, clean shot to the ribs, it was a much bigger beast than I thought it would be. It is probably weird that I post all of these butchered animals on my blog, but it is key to what we do in the cucina and it is also pretty amazing to have such a handle on the product that is being used and served.

TIme to roll us home, and then out to the bar of course for Tyler’s send off. We headed to BierHouse, there was karaoke there. After Tyler and Anna headed home, Frankie, Drew, and I hung around with the KSU guys for a bit. Drew and I were baited into singing. We worked for a few Guns & Roses songs, but the lady couldn’t play them. Yes these songs were going to be sung in english, so that was a plus. Then we decided on Prince. I really wanted to sing 1999, and Drew was like, “I don’t even know that song...” Are you kidding me? I am way too old. So after a failed attempt of Raspberry Beret, we settled on Shaggy’s - Shorty your my angel. Sick. But we still had a great time!!! After a short nap, it was time to send Tyler off at 5:15 for his train to Rome. A day off tomorrow, Yeah for sleeping in!

Ciao!
